Caution is recommended when dealing with those who try to promote car covers made of man-made synthetic fabrics. Those who mislead the public by promoting synthetic fabrics versus that of 100% natural cotton; the softest and most breathable material on Earth.
Many of us remember the famous “Nylon shirts of the 60’s” - the constant “humid patch” under the arms. These shirts did not breath and moisture could not escape, resulting in sweat being tapped between the body and the shirt. Car covers made of man-made synthetic fabrics likewise need to deal with this same problematic issue.
Certain high-end indoor car covers made of man-made fabrics may offer a certain level of breathability, however insufficient to achieve a reliable moisture exchange like that of natural 100% cotton. Such car covers should only be used in heated storage locations.
Cotton not only absorbs moisture freely, it also releases it quickly and efficiently. The rule is: if a fibre does not absorb moisture it is not able to release it. Pyjamas, underwear, socks, t-shirts, bed sheets etc. are all made of 100% cotton, a popular choice when dealing with hot and humid conditions. The fact is, cotton is and remains the softest and most breathable natural material for long-term protection of cars. |
